Excel Calculate Decimal Hours from two Time Cells - Episode 902

Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Converting times to decimal hours. Welcome to another episode of the MrExcel netcast! Today were helping Greg with a worksheet problem.
He has two times and needs to figure out the difference between them.
Normally wed just subtract the two times but Greg needs to show the number of hours and a fractional number of hours. The way Excel stores time is as a decimal between 0 and 1.
For example 6 hours would be 0.25 because its 25 of a day.
To solve this problem we need to take the subtraction and multiply the whole thing by 24.
Then we can use Format Cells to change the number of decimal places. Using this method we can easily total up the number of hours even if its in excess of 24.
