Your Name on My Heart

Your Name on My Heart is an English rhyming translation of a 24couplet Urdu ghazal a song of love loss and the ache of separation.
Each verse repeats the same haunting confession: peace is never found sleep is never found you are never found.
Written in the classical radif style repeated end phrase but now in singable English rhyme.
This is not a love story.
This is what remains after love leaves.
Piano sarangi and a lone voice in an empty room.
Suno listen to the silence between the lines. Lyrics: My heart finds no peace no rest anywhere Away from you nothing feels fair. Each dawn your memory chains me tight Without you my heart finds no other delight. Flowers bloom but your scent stays true Without you a flowers worth I never knew. The moon and stars weep with me all night In such darkness sleep takes flight. If your hand were in mine what a tale that would be Now only in dreams your touch I see. Your citys streets ask me every day: Why does this madman have no place to stay? I worshipped you like a shrines sacred flame But in your heart not even my name. Distances grew they will not fold I see you at every turn yet you never hold. Whenever I write your name the paper burns My pen has lost the magic it once earned. I pray to God you stay happy and bright But in your joy I have no right. Only love remains and loves own fire No monsoon comes to take it higher. On my hearts door only your name is carved Another knocks but the skill is starved. Every pain of yours is mine to keep Without you no balm can soothe the deep. You once asked Whats in loving so? Today I say from myself no escape I know. Your face dances in every raindrops fall I take an umbrella but it cant stop at all. I chant your name on a rosarys thread Without your mention all light is dead. Every breath comes from you to you it goes In between no pause no repose. She said Forget me thats the way But she doesnt know forgetting has no recipe to play. My heart was glass one shove it broke No tailor exists for this deadly stroke. You once wrote a letter with your own hand Today that letter lies but to read I cannot stand. When someone asks How are you friend? I tell the truth but no heart will comprehend. I am the stone on the street you walk each day Your footsteps sound is my only display. A hundred times I broke my heart a hundred times I mended But once shattered by your hands that pain is never ended. One last thing before I leave your sight: The farther you are the closer you are not.
That is my night.
