About IFFCOLOMBO 2014 Sri Lankan cinema began in the mid 40s though it was in 1956 that our cinema with truly a Sri Lankan identity was born.
That was with Dr.
Lester James Pieriss Rekhava Silver Line.
It represented the Cannes film festival that year.
Since then our cinema has been representing major international film festivals in the world. Although our cinema has been known among independent festival audience around the world unfortunately we could not initiate a significantly effective international film festival in Sri Lanka.
Therefore INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF COLOMBO IFFCOLOMBO goal is to full fill the need for an international cinema celebration in this island.
The Directors Guild of Sri Lanka is the main body behind IFFCOLOMBO.
