Human neutrophil swarming blocks the growth of Candida albicans


The first half of the movie shows neutrophils swarming against a cluster of candida left panel.
For comparison unopposed candida grows quickly same initial cluster size - right panel.
12 hours time-lapse imaging one image every 5 minutes.
The candida cluster diameter is 100 um. The second half of the movie starting at 00:34 shows some of the details of neutrophil swarm against a cluster of Candida using fluorescent dyes.
We use blue Hoechst dye staining to visualize the nuclei of the neutrophils during swarming left.
We use green SytoGreen staining to visualize the NETs released inside the neutrophil swarms during the interaction with candida right. Learn more about how neutrophils cooperate to contain large fungi clusters and how this cooperation fails in chronic granulomatous disease CGD:
