Lewis Hamiltons contract saga with Mercedes was brought to an end on Monday as he signed a new one year deal but it raises questions on whether he will step down from Formula one at the end of this season. Slipstream media has taken a look and analysed four potential candidate who could replace Lewis Hamilton in 2022 The biggest statement Mercedes formula one team could make in 2022 is going to their closest rivals and stealing the sports future superstar. Max Verstappen reportedly has a binding clause in his contract which means he can leave Red Bull at the end of the season if he doesnt finish in the top three. Next up The most likely switch without a doubt would of course be Williams driver George Russell to be promoted to take over Hamiltons seat. The young British driver has impressed the paddock since breaking into Formula 1 at Williams but he truly revealed his capabilities at last season Sakhir Grand Pree after driving for Mercedes. Russell is almost the safe option for Mercedes considering his contract with Williams also expires at the end of 2021 season Moving on Esteban Ocon was originally being primed to take a seat at Mercedes before he joined Renault in 2020. Any interest in Ocon may well depend on how he performs this season having struggled in his debut season with Renault but he has a new opportunity in 2021 to compete against two time F1 champion Fernando Alonso. A more outlandish option but one who may well be most deserving having been on Mercedes radar since 2013. Hulkenberg was reportedly their first option before opting to go with Hamilton. The German has since lost his seat in F1 but he was the first port of call last season when Force India needed a stand-in driver.
