William De Morgan: A Forgotten Pre-Raphaelite Painter?


Why did William De Morgan abandon painting? Pictured here is the beautiful painting The Alchemists Daughter.
It demonstrates William De Morgans ability as an artist.
The beautiful jewel-like colours and careful composition are testament to his skill. But after about 1874 he gave up on what he would call his youthful brush dabblings to work as a ceramic artist. In this talk Director of the De Morgan Museum Sarah Hardy will present William De Morgan as a forgotten Pre-Raphaelite painter.
