Mowing Lawn in Winter. The 14 Rule

We all know the 13 rule for mowing lawn.
Never mow more than a 13 of the grass height in a single mow. Mowing lawn in winter is a little bit different for warm season grasses in winter and mowing a 13 of the height in a single mow can be disastrous.
You can easily expose a bit of thatch injure the lawn and open up the canopy to more sunlight getting to the ground and assisting weed germination. Winter means dormancy for warm season lawn.
That means it will slow down in growth and in some instances stop growing for a little while.
It really depends on climate. Id like to introduce the 14 rule.
What this means is do not mow any more than 14 the height of the lawn in a single mow but it also means that youll be mowing about the quarter of the time.
At the end of autumn youll be mowing about once a week or a fortnight.
Pretty soon going into winter youll be mowing once a month rather than once a week.
So this 14 relates to winter time mowing. Tiftuf bermuda grass in winter cannot be mowed aggressively.
Any injuries you do by mowing too low now will not self repair during winter and youl be stuck with it till spring.
Nobody wants yucky brown bits till spring. Simarly couches kikuyu buffalo which are warm season lawns cannot be mowed too low or aggressively during winter. Best advise I can give is mow a bit taller it will help the lawn grab the less available sunlight for photosynthesis.
